SBPA Corporate-Free Political Action Committee
SBPA focuses on elections in the South Bay area by working to identify, develop, support, and elect local candidates who refuse to accept corporate donations. As an organization, SBPA is not permitted to make contributions to candidates. So, we formed a Political Action Committee (PAC).
PACs are organized for the purpose of raising and spending money to elect candidates. In late 2021, we formed the South Bay Progressive Alliance Corporate Free PAC as a “Nonconnected PAC” to support the election of Corporate-Free candidates here in Santa Clara County.
Why contribute to the SBPA Corporate Free PAC?
Corporations, lobbyists, and special interest groups were empowered by Supreme Court rulings to exert an outsized influence on our elections at the local, regional, and state level with their deep pockets and the “buying” of elections. Despite the popular will, they often out-shout/drown-out lesser-known candidates whose positions on issues truly benefit people.
SBPA PAC only supports corporate-free candidates who, in order to avoid conflicts of interest and maintain financial and political independence, commit to refuse donations from corporations, industry lobbyists, corporate representatives, and Political Action Committees (except for union PACs and PACs that refuse corporate donations) and further, to publicize that they are corporate-free candidates in their campaign literature, website, and social media.
SBPA PAC seeks to level the playing field by helping elect truly corporate-free candidates to public office. While the reality is that precinct walking and people-powered campaigns are one of our best tools, it still takes money to print literature, lawn signs, host phone banks, and pay for direct mail campaigns.
When you contribute to the SBPA Corporate Free PAC, your donations are amplified by the voices of other like-minded progressives. We WANT to show up on donor lists as significant players in local and regional races. With your help, we can make a difference that matters.
